Quite the reverse ― immense wind & rain, & all dark all day. Worked a little more in finishing the Clermont Athos ― & packed that & the 2 Empsons. & slept, dawdled ― wrote ― bosh. ― Furious winds at 5 ― went to Sir J. R.’s & sat with Lady R. some time. ― letters have come from the Cortazzi ― they are going to Russia. “So sinks the setting sun.” ― Came home & dressed. ―
F.L. came at ¼ to 7 ― & we waited for Bunsen, whom, not coming, we gave up at 7/5 ― & were going to his home, when B. came. Terrific wind. ― Mess dinner ― more or less a bore. At 9½ being obliged to go out to pump ship in the wet, I cut away home.
