Rose at 7 ― a little headache. (?) ― Unpacked drawings &c. &c. Letters from Ann, Mr. Cracke, E. Tennyson, & Sir J. Potter. The Cortazzi are at Manchester. (!!).― Walk on the Terrace. Most lovely bright sunny ― the Langdale Pikes & all the hills clear ― small, not beautiful: neat ― lovely. ―― Breakfast merry & pleasant, after the galling prayers ―:― Robert no more. ―

Then I drew ― having drawings below & shewing them to J.C. & others. Settling to colouring ― all the rest went out, ― & Miss Hornby came in: ― how wonderfully the same as 23 years ago! ― If possible kinder & brighter. ― Lunch: ― & drawing again afterwards: ― & long talk with Mrs. Hornby about Robert‘s ten poems. At 4½ went out to look for J.C. ― (adventure with the lady on the landing place ―) finding him at 5½ ― we walked on to Brathay ― & back by 6¾. Dinner speak. Music afterwards. ― The early day was oppressing & sad to me ― the latter part quite otherwise.
