How beautiful is Woodberry in the morning ― & in Autumn particularly! ― Howbeit ― breakfast there is never on a high key. Only Geoff was up. He, I, & W.N. walked round by the reservoir, & then came to town in the Brougham, where they put me down at Frith’s (Virtue’s.) It was odd to be, in one moment, in the midst of all places ― by photograph. ― Thence, cab home. Found letters ― one returned from Corfû ― from Mr. Crake, offering me 100£ most kindly. ― One from Mrs. Wilbraham. ― Set off to Hunt’s ― & found him going into the country. I shall live there a good deal ― yet keep these rooms for Ann’s sake. H.H. returned with me, saw my drawings, & lunched. Then we went on to R. Martineau’s. After that I called at Wyatt’s ˇ[& hired a piano] & Beadon’s ― came home ― went to Crake’s, & finally dined alone.

A really cloudless & hot day.
