Very brilliant morning. Waked early ― & no end of thought. ― O! then 5 paintings & 7 drawings! A wall beyond which the mind-eye sees not. ― And my education? ― My early hour life? ― My Greek? ― And H.C.? ― Hansen came after breakfast, with letters ― & others by post ― Mrs. Clive, J.H.B., Baring &c. Worked (2nd day) at the Masada ― till 6. Then dressed ―: called on Ann, who is lodging near here. ― Walked to Lowndes St. & saw Lord Carysfort & 2 Ladies Proby. ― Poor Proby seems now going. ―
Then to 18 Chesham Place, where John & Mary Harford are, for her 5th confinement. ― Very pleasant dinner & evening. ― Ernest Bunsen & his wife there. Staid latish. ―
Cab back to Tor Villa.1 ― Read Lord Canning’s proclamation2 to H.H. ― Bed very late.
