Cold ― but the weather is changing ― & after 12 rain ― & cloud: wet all the afternoon & evening. ― After finishing letters ― to Janet Hunt, ― Foord, Farrant, & C.F. ― worked very hard at Windham H.’s drawing of Absalom’s tomb ― (what fun at Knowsley Cottage the word brings back! ―) & at another of the Palestine drawings. At 1 ― S.W.C. came in, bun-bearing. He staid a while, & I went out to P. Williams ― & back to work till 4. Then I sate with the Woodwards, & Mr. Hay till 5.30. ― Macdonald, ill for some days, is worse. 5.45 ― dined with S.W.C. ( pleasantly.) ― but he, going to the Vatican with the V. Smiths, I left, & went to the reading room, & home for café. ― Giorgio’s philosophy about bodies & souls. G. has made 10 dusters & 2 aprons today.
