Still very poorly, & suffering from cold. ― Assuredly ― as one grows older, this winter life might be mended? ―

Sent Giorgio, (in his new clothes) to his church. I wrote ― to Mrs. Uwi[ns], Mr. Crake, & Holman Hunt. At 1 went to Bright’s ― where was Gibbs, & we 3 went over the ferry, to M. Mario ― & down by the Ilex=down, to the P. Molle, & by the river home. I suffered from Asthma & coughed sadly & enjoyed nothing till the upper air of M. Mario relieved me a little: but afterwards I was very poorly again. Returning by 5½ ― I sate a bit with the 2 little Beresford boys ― then dressed, & went to Bright’s. Gibbs & Clowes there. The dinner was really pleasant enough: afterwards, the conversation was less so. ― So I came home at 10½ ― & found the faithful Giorgio waiting.
