Rose earlier ― not usual. Worked at Bethlehem ― but a regular crowd of people came ― about 56 ― or 58 ― & was obliged to tell Giorgio to let no more up. The 2 Lady Carmichaels ―about the only very nice ones. Many queer & rude & vulgar ― & I do not know how to stop it. Later came J. Gibson ― & Majr. & Miss Reynolds, very nice people. They have an Albanian servant, & finding that mine was so, Miss R. (or Miss Yates?) perhaps a sister in law ―) turned round & looked at G. ― going out, so that the Suliot turned red, & I told him why. Due Albanesi? ― said he ― Basta uno qua?. ―1
I worked at Bethlehem till 4½ ― Gibbs having looked in, ― & returning then, we drove to the Doria Pamphili ― & walked back. How lovely are those Roman views, ― yet how wonderfully little one enjoys or ever sees of them here!! ― I am sorry Gibbs is going. ――
Returned by 6½ ― found the Marshalls had been here ― Charmside & the 2 younger ones: G. says of C. ― “φαίνεται τρελὸς.”2 ― which may be so.
Dined: & wrote Greek. ― Dreamy prison life. ―
