Rose ― nevertheless, μάλον ὅλον τοῦτο1 ― at 6.
Greek lesson. ― At 10 ― to the Chetwodes, & saw them all off ―: most nice & really good people. ―
Came home & worked at Φotograph experiments till 2. Calls on Williams & the Photograph man ― & to work again till 4½ ― when Drummond came, but could not walk ― his wife unwell. Went out & made calls, saw Gibson &c.: ― & then walked with P.J.W. till 6. Dined at W. Sandbach’s ― Miss Cushman, Miss Hosmer ― & Leighton ― a man I had never seen. ― I should suppose him rather superficial, but so ‘set up’ partly by natural set & inward gifts, & by circumstances of education &c. &c. ― that that fact would not be very evident generally. ― Drummond being very pleasant. War, tho’, is the talk.
