Cloudy & wet. By 9 was aboard the Newhaven Boat. ―
The Passage over ― starting at 9½ ― was a misery, though more on account of the probability of worse weather, than the actual roughness. I just kept from being quite knocked off.
At Newhaven by 3. ― Custom House, & off at 4.
Found Bern & Mrs. Hunt at Lewes, precisely as kind as ever. ― The Humphrey Blackmores with them.
Dinner & evening most pleasant.
Slept uncommon.
The unvaried kindness of the these friends is a matter of wonder. ―
