Ellen & W.N. ― talk of Sarah &c. Walked back to Ashtead ― Mrs. G. Upton, Robt. & Mrs. Curzon, H. Paget, W. Legge, Mrs. & Miss Levitt. Dear old Mrs. Howard, wondrously well & kindly. Dinner pleasant. R.C.’s anecdote of asking P. Nono for the total extremis absolution for old Lady [Newburgh]. how P.N. asked to look at “quel Leone” being the [Schaks’] order ― & in a wond[rous] recess how C. went down on one knee &c. &c. ―― Evening pleasant. Mrs. C. sings well.
