Sent letter to Lady Bethell.
Tolerably fair till 12 ― afterwards cold, damp & dark.
Worked pretty well at Stansfeld’s Tor Cento Celle. Wrote to Lady Bethell: very hastily ― in 25 min. ― but I thought, better so, than delay longer.
1st day of Carnival: very seedy. ―
At 4 walked with P.W. to St. John Lateran ― gray & cold.
Dined alone. Penned out Damascus.
G. Kokali writes & reads better than he did.
