Then breakfast ― having written to Lady Stratford a resumée of what I said yesterday. ― At 8 to Euston Square ― & at 9 off ― a nice girl ― (like H.C.) in the carriage ― sister of Mrs. Redmayne: ― & another 2 ― both nice people. The day passed rapidly & pleasantly ― remarkably ― no stoppings. At 3 the old Winwick spire.1― At 3.50 or 4 ― Bowness.  [Coach] to Wansfell ― about 5 ― unpacked ― & then J. Cross: dear good J. Cross. ― A letter from C. Fortescue ― not pleasant ― except in its reminding me of C.F.’s kind & steadfast nature. ― At 7 dinner. Mrs. H. looking well ― & like Mrs. Latouche; good & noble. ― Miss H. ― very much aged: but the same as of old. Miss [E.]H. aged also ― but the same. & Pussey ― bright & true as ever. (Geoff is going to China.) ― J.C. & I had much talk after dinner: ― how faultless such people seem compared to oneself! ― & then, evening ― quiet & talk till prayers. ― Afterwards ― singing for some time.
