Slept better. Rose at 7. Letter from Frank ― to whom I wrote. ― Drew, till at 10½ Ellis Ashton came ― who fired at the beginning of the drawings ― but faded, & went abruptly. A real grand kind man. Drew on, at Gibbs’s Bethlehem ― till 2. Then walked to Lambeth. Fig trees shaded by wall ― hardly available. ― walked on by the park ― to Mrs. Bryd’s, who was at home. ―― Then through Belgravia, & the Park to Hunt’s. ― for I had resolved to go to Lewes & try to finish the fig trees. & I unpacked, & packed ― & played the piano ― &c. &c. ― & found a cat ― & got back by 7. Tired & happy. ― Dinner with Ann, & penned out after. ― I do not really think we two could put on always.
