Rose at 6. Quite clear & fine & cool. At 7 ― walked to Mr. Peachy’s ― a lively & pleasant yeoman. Castor oil plant. ― Breakfast. ― Letters from Ann, & R. Barnes. Wrote to Mrs. Tennyson & F.L. ― A world of thought about H.C. ― Then painted till 1. Lunch. ― And painted again at the Peachy garden trees till 5. Then walked by quiet lanes & roads & fields to the sea ― very gray & hazy like the Dead Sea ― & so by dull Worthing beach to Tarring. Dinner, & penning out till 10. Comet.
