A wet day! ― And a day ― all broken up, for though I painted off & on at the Bethlehem, yet it was at times too dark to see ― & S. Clowes came & staid 2 or 3 hours. I shewed him drawings ― &c. ― & we agreed how impossible it was to be other than quite independent about Rome. After lunch, worked again ― but at 3 it was dark. At 5 ― Buss to Stratford Place, & a very pleasant dinner & evening with the W. Beadons, always both of them kind & good. ― Home by 10.30 ― & penned out till 12. Much conversation with H.H. on certain subjects ― greatly disturbing to myself, thereof I say little to him.
Irritated ― & stomach unwell ―
