Rose ― sunrise about 7¼ now. ὁ ιδιος καιρὸς. ― by jingo, how cold! Wrote ― & finished letters for Ann, F.L. ― C. Church, & R. Barnes. Then worked at a South Jerusalem view, while Giorgio went to get working utensils. At 12 ― Col. & Mrs. Northey ― 1 son, & 2 daughters, ― Mr. Miss & Master Ingram, ― Egerton & Lady F. Harcourt, & later, Mrs. & Miss Elliot ― came. (12 in all.) & I went through the Palestine sketches. Worked again off & on till 4. Sent Isabella K. some drawings &c. ― Then called on Mr. Underwood ― out // ― Chetwodes ― out //. & Macbeans. Mrs. M. struck me as very nice & pleasant, & is sister to “Gordon” R.E.” ― Thence to the Φαλκονε ― where I really dined well on 4½ pounds: it is by far the decentest place here. ― Returning, my room & fire seemed so comfortable that I have sent to ask if S.W.C. will come in, instead of my going to him. ― S.W.C. came, & staid till 10½ ― good & kind S.W.C. ever.
