XX1 Alas. ― Yet somehow I rose better ― whether from warmer weather, or from the stuff Mr. Stansfeld gave me I cannot tell. The day has been pouringly wet all day ― but warm. ―
I painted at the Masada ― (barring Greek lesson No. 2 ―) & at 12 two Messrs Beauclerk, ― & the Duchess of St. Albans & her daughter came, (& a Mrs. Bruce. Nobody more delightfully pleasant than that Duchess of St. Albans ever saw I. ― & after she went the young pleasant Beauclerk bought all the 3 remaining pictures. GOD BE THANKED. ― S.W.C. came & drew afterwards ― & at 5 I called on the Chetwodes, who are good but vastly silly folk. ―
Came home, to write Greek & a letter to Ann, from whom I had a letter today. ―
