Rose at 8. We are so fallen now. ― Somehow, ― irritated & comfortless. After Greek lesson ― worked on H.H.’s Bethlehem, paying Pizzerani half his account ― 2.3.4 sc. ― Later, letters came from F.L. ― & from J.H.B., both kind. Wrote to F.L. & C.F. ― Worked again ― interrupted only by young Blackwell & Mrs. B. ― At 4 called on Miss Cushman, Lady Stratford, Perkins &c. ― & the Knights: ― the last a bore. ―
Dressed & went to the J. Marshalls at 6½ ― dinner at 7¼ . Charmside & A. de Vere there. Julia’s birthday ― & games; ― wrote rimes &c. &c. ― Saw an account of the 1st sitting of the Ionian parliament ― as bad as can be. ― Evening tolerable. ― Returning home found Giorgio out, & was half angry. Was angry also with the carpenter today. ― Indeed it is a life somewhat of anger altogether ― & sad. ―
