A crowd of people ― as usual, amongst whom, Miss Barnaby was the beauty. Ross of Bladensburgh ― & others interesting. ― After they went, & I was again beginning to paint, came Miss Tullok & a friend ― & I was glad to show my sketches to so old a friend. ― Miss Webb & others came at the same time ― & the Sampayos ― all very pleasant, but difficult. ― At 4 I went out, & called on Sir C. Maclean. The Corfû news is more shocking than ever. ― Then to try to buy a bookcase: ― but could not. [Ἔσειδα] ― walked in the Borghese, & returned to dine. P. Williams came ― but was obliged to leave afterwards for a party. Kind good S.W.C. came twice ― & latterly sat to 10.
