At 8½ ― Gio. & I went to the Europe, & with S.W.C. & Gibbs ― to Tivoli. A very lovely morning.
ˇ[First to Villa Adriana &] Then ˇ[to the town.] ― we went the old round of the Gardens, grottoes & then lunched at the dirty old Sibilla ― where perhaps things were somewhat cleaner than of yore: ― the kind waiter Gaetano recognized me as Sr Odoardo & professed great joy. Then we went to the V. D’Este ― & all round the “Giro” ― returning by 3¾ ― & setting off. It was very cold near Rome ―wh. we reached before 6½.
Clowes & Gibbs dined with me. ―
Small progress is made thus in the 6 pictures.
