By sunrise & moonset, the storm had abated, but I was still lying unable to move ― drenched, & with the little dog on my head, who came to sit there, being left alone in the storm.
By 8, I got up, but soon had to lie down again. The sea was less rough, but yet bad: clouds cleared away, & day became bright. Monaco & Alps very lovely. I could not go down to breakfast, but at 2 got a little to eat. Then lay down again all the afternoon, for in the Gulf of Lyons ― after Hyères, the pitching was far from bearable, & the sufferings of the many highly odious. Later, as the sun set, the wind calmed, & I rose, though still ever very unwell. Talked a little with Brocchi & then Maharajah ― & others, ― & waited long till 10, when, in our harbour place at Marseilles we got off with seul a carpet or railbag, & went to the Hotel des Empereurs. Here we washed & at 11 supped ― going soon to bed.

“With the little dog on my head” = an owl and a wren in his beard?
A somewhat puzzling entry.
