Left Ashwood with Sir R.B. at 9.45. ―
Rail to town. Persevering Lady Client. ― Capt. [Bedingfield], Husey Hunt, 4 Evans & 2 Gibsons. ― then 6 or 8 Cocks’s ― 2 Hares, & Gibbs, ― (the Roman Gibbs: who has been to Masada & where not.[)] Also 3 Welds. ― some 30 people in all. { 2 Farquhars after I left.
The heat & noise & idleness of this terrible place.
I walked out at 5½ ― calls ― & to Martins, Bickers, Foords, & Hair[-]cutting woe. Returned at 7½ to dine ― the first time since I came here! ― Read Keith,1 wh. irritates. ―
