Cortazzi (family)
Lear met the Cortazzis in Corfu in the spring of 1856 and was immediately fascinated by the younger of the two sisters, Helena, while the elder, Madeleine, was “his alarm.” The father was Italian and the mother, Mrs. Cortazzi, was a relation of the Lancashire Hornbys.
